Journey Types

Participating in a Leadership Journey is a life changing experience. Why not arrange to participate in a Journey with a group of friends? The Personal Journey is where a group of individuals who are not necessarily connected by a common employer engage in a Leadership Journey. The individuals have total control over the choice of destination, project, personal development components and itinerary. They interact directly with the Leadership Journey Facilitator to design the itinerary and personal development component of their Journey. The Personal Journey takes place during their personal leave time and is fully funded by the group members. The participants agree to raise a pre-agreed sum of money for the project they are visiting upon their return.

The Shared Journey is where a group of 8-10 participants engage in a Leadership Journey in conjunction with their employer.
  • In this case the organisation and the participant group work together to choose the country and project. The chosen project may relate to the organisation in some way. For example, an educational institution may choose a school or literacy project and a medical or pharmaceutical organisation may choose a medical project.
  • The organisation and participants agree on a percentage of costs to be borne by each party. This may be a 50/50 share or 25/75 share as decided by the relevant parties. For example, participants may pay the air travel costs and ‘touristy’ options while the employer pays for the ground costs and facilitation.
  • The development component is designed in consultation with the organisation and participants.
  • Both the organisation and participants commit to a specific sum of money to be raised by the project champions upon their return.
  • A decision is made about whether the Leadership Journey will take place during personal leave time, work time or a combination of the two.

The Professional Journey is where an organisation engages directly in a Leadership Journey.
  • In this case the Human Resources team, or relevant manager, will select the participants.
  • They will also select the country and project destination.
  • The development component will be designed with the company’s needs in mind.
  • The majority of the cost of the program is borne by the organisation.
  • Participants, upon their return, are expected Champion the project to raise a pre-agreed sum of money, with the organisation providing a guarantee of these funds.
  • The Leadership Journey takes place during an 8-10 day period spaced over two weekends and no more than five working days.
